Fiesta Medal 2013

I'm excited to have finally received my 2013 Fiesta medals. I'm looking forward to attending San Antonio's 10 day party with a purpose! I'll be passing my medals out at all of the events that I attend. So, I hope to see you all out and about. If you don't think I'll run into you and you happen to be interested in picking up one of these gems, after tomorrow you can swing by City Hall and ask the receptionist for one of my medals. While you are there you can also request one of Julian's as well. Just don't wait too long, they are going fast! As we say in San Antonio, Viva Fiesta!

The Big Four

I know that it has been what seems like a long while since my last blog posting. I am not sure where all the time goes and how it goes by so quickly. I enjoyed a much needed one week off of work for Spring Break two weeks ago. I had so much fun that week. Not that I did any traveling like many other Spring Breakers instead the we had a staycation this Spring Break. I enjoyed being able to spend the whole week with Carina and celebrate her 4th birthday. I'm amazed at how many milestones she has accomplished this past year and I am for sure looking for the milestones she will hit this year!

During Spring Break Julian and I taped an interview with Kens 5 about how things were going now that we are coming upon the end of Julian's fourth year as Mayor. The interview aired last night during the 10 o'clock news and I hope you were able to catch it.  It's hard to think that four years have gone by with Julian in office. Have these four years been what I thought it would be like? Yes. I knew to expect hectic schedules, long hours and a lot of traveling. Would I want to change any of it? No. As crazy as this sounds I enjoy the hectic schedules and being on the go nonstop. My life is a journey that I get one shot at and I rather be active in it and stay busy versus just standing still watching from the sidelines. Julian has been lucky enough to have found his passion and that is serving his community. It makes me happy to see him doing what he loves.

Miss Fiesta 2013

Miss Fiesta 2013

Last night I had the pleasure of being a judge for the Miss Fiesta 2013 competition. I had never sat in as a judge for Miss Fiesta so I was very excited about the invitation and taking part in the selection process. The program ran pretty quickly and lasted about one hour. The program consisted of each of the five finalist answering questions regarding their service platform that they wished to implement if chosen as Miss Fiesta along with a question that they had to randomly pick out of a bowl that you see at many pageants.

I was very impressed with all the five young ladies and all of their poise, accomplishments and extensive volunteer work. Some of their resumes looked longer than mine! I admired them for having so much confidence and courage to get up on the stage and present themselves in the manner that they did. I knew after the introductions were made and the first round of questions were done there was no way the panel of judges could go wrong in whoever we selected. They all did a great job! I wish I could say that I had that much confidence at their young age.

I do have to make sure I share this side note with you all about when I first arrived to the location of the competition because I definitely got a kick out of it. When I walked in the door a gentlemen greeted me and asked me if I was a contestant so that he could show me the way to where all the other contestants were waiting at. Was I insulted? No, not at all.  I didn't mind at all being confused for a twenty something. At this point I don't mind getting confused for a twenty anything.

My view of the stage as I watched the now former
Miss Fiesta 2012 do a run through of the program.

Madam Speaker

We've made it to the final week in February! I can not believe how fast these months are already going. I am especially looking forward for March to come. It has become one of my favorite months of the year. Not only because of Spring Break but because of a special day that falls during Spring Break and that is Carina's birthday. We are looking forward to celebrating her 4th birthday in a few weeks. She is very excited about turning a year older and I am just as excited about how many more milestones my baby girl will make this upcoming year.

Although many of the events that Julian and I attend are primarily here in San Antonio we do have the opportunity to also attend different events in other cities. This particular weekend we were invited to Laredo, Texas for their big George Washington birthday celebrations and Julian also received the SeƱor Internacional award along with the Mayor of Nuevo Laredo. Turns out we weren't the only ones visiting Laredo. Madam Speaker Nancy Pelosi happened to also be in town. I loved the color of her suit and it almost made me regret wearing black.

Although it was a nice to getaway for the weekend, I am looking forward to a good night's sleep in my bed tonight. It is going to be a busy week and I am especially looking forward to the Miss Fiesta 2013 competition that I will be helping to judge on Thursday. So, be on the look out for a blog about my experience on being on the judge's panel.

Wishing you all a great work week!

We weren't the only ones visiting Laredo. I was honored to have
been able to take a picture with Nancy Pelosi this weekend.

I Survived!

I hope that you were able to catch me live last night on Talk Now SA. I had such a great time being on the show! It was my first time visiting the Geekdom offices as well as the new Silver Fox Studios and I must say that I was very impressed with what they have done with the space.

When I arrived to the studios I will admit that I was feeling pretty nervous. As soon as I sat down in the studios and saw the clock count down the minutes to 7:00 I felt my palms start to sweat and my mouth starting to feel dry. I think the whole "live" concept played a mind game with me. But, once Chris got the interview going I felt relaxed. I completely forgot about the cameras and everyone watching on their computer and just enjoyed a conversation with a great host and rode with it. I did not think I would have enough to talk about on the hour long show, but, I was wrong. Seems like I did have plenty to say and the time sure did fly by. I would definitely do it again!

Check out the pictures of my visit to the studio and with the Silver Fox Crew. A big thanks to Sal Robles and Steve Walker for the photos!
